A benefit is being held for Harry (Buddy) Loane of Kilmuir, PEI. On August 31, Buddy was referred to the QEII Eye Centre about a “skin tag” on the back of his eye only to find out that he has a malignant tumor attached to the optical nerve. The eye specialist in Halifax told him and his family that they could not help him, that they were referring him to the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto, Ontario. He will travel to Toronto on October 8-11 for a consultation, more testing and hopefully, a treatment plan.
For those of you who know Buddy you would say he is far from shy, thus he has a huge involvement in the local and farming community. He’s been a 4-H Club Leader and a District Representative, a Director of the PEI Cattlemen’s Assoc., president of the PEI Swine Assoc., Director of the Dundas Plowing Match, President of the Maritime Angus Assoc., Angus Rep. on the Provincial Exhibition Board, and Director of The Canadian Angus Assoc. Two years ago, he received a 50 year award from the Canadian Angus Assoc. Buddy is retired now, but used to be a bus driver for the Eastern School District, Unit #4. Buddy and Bev have been together for 43 years of marriage, farming, 2 children, 4 grand-children, diabetes, 3 heart-attacks and now this new challenge.
Family, friends and loved ones will be holding a benefit on October 13th, 2012 at the Murray River Hall from 7pm till 10pm. There will be lots of local talent such as Kim Albert, Garnet Buell, Neil Matthews, Charlie Hanson and many more. Today, we are asking you to make this benefit a success, as the family is encountering mounting travel expenses for treatment. Enjoy a 50/50 draw, auction, great lunch and wonderful entertainment. Food donations towards the lunch are also encouraged.
Admission is $5.00 each and donations at the door are gratefully accepted and appreciated. All proceeds from the event will be given to the Guest of Honor.
